Released on 4 March 2024 and part of On Running's Cloudmonster 2 line. This release has a mesh upper in Undyed/Zest. Undyed Zest is the second generation Cloudmonster with two ideas in the name. Undyed says the dye step was left out, so the base material stays close to its natural tone rather than being coloured to a target. Zest is the citrus accent that stops that natural tone from looking accidental. Putting a raw finish on the most engineered silhouette On makes is a genuinely modern move for a company that only started in 2010, when Olivier Bernhard cut a garden hose into sections and glued them to a sole in Zurich to prove a hollow shape could cushion on landing and firm up for push off after Nike turned the concept down.
A bright accent on a natural base wants restraint everywhere else. Recipe one: ecru wide leg trousers and a white tee, so the zest tone is the single point of colour in the outfit. Recipe two: black joggers with a stone hoodie, using the dark base to make the undyed midsole look brighter than it is. Use them for easy road mileage, long walks, weekends and dry travel, and avoid mud and monsoon streets entirely. Fit true to size with a generous forefoot and a firm heel. Waterproof spray before first wear, clean marks the same day, brush the sole dry and knock trapped stones out of the pods weekly.
On is not a heritage brand and does not pretend to be. It is fifteen years old, holds about 2 percent of the global athletic footwear market, and reached 2.32 billion Swiss francs of revenue in 2024 on the back of models like this one. The Cloudmonster is the silhouette that took the brand beyond running clubs, helped by the lifestyle door Roger Federer opened as a shareholder from November 2019 with The Roger following in July 2020. An undyed colourway with a citrus hit is aimed at the design led half of that audience, the people who read a sneaker the way they read furniture.
The Cloudmonster runs hexagonal CloudTec pods, engineered cavity shapes that load energy on impact and unleash it on take off. The behaviour is geometric rather than chemical: On shapes foam into those specialised forms so compression happens horizontally as well as vertically, giving multi directional support and keeping a very tall sole from feeling unstable. An undyed body with a bright accent is the clearest possible presentation of that structure, because the natural tone reads as material and the zest highlight draws the eye to the sole line. It is also demanding: undyed surfaces mark easily and warm with age, so protect them early and clean them often.
