Designed by Sergio Lozano and released on 12 September 2025 as part of Nike's Air Max 95 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Wolf Grey/Dark Smoke Grey/Cool Grey. Nike has been pulling outside worlds into its product for a long time, and it has learned the hard way that borrowed culture has to be handled properly. This Air Max Muscle 95 QS is built around Yu-Gi-Oh! and the Jonouchi character, a licensed anime tie in given a Quickstrike release, which is Nike's format for shoes released short and deliberate rather than broadly. The Air Max lineage it sits in began in 1987, when Nike cut a window into the midsole and made the pressurised gas unit visible for the first time, converting cushioning into a design language. Pairing that with a card game character is exactly the kind of collision the Air Max platform has always taken well, because the shoe was designed to be looked at.
Wear one: let the shoe be the whole statement. Black or washed grey cargo trousers with a straight hem, a plain heavyweight tee, nothing else competing, so the character colour blocking reads at a glance. Wear two: pull one colour out of the upper into a cap or a bag strap and keep everything else neutral, which is how loud sneakers stay wearable past the first outing. This is a lifestyle Air Max, so it suits city walking, conventions, long standing days and anything where the visible Air is doing real work. Size true. Keep the exposed Air unit clean with a damp cloth, avoid brushes on the window, and protect the printed or graphic panels from prolonged sun.
Nike's most interesting collaborations have not always been with other clothing brands. It worked with Apple on Nike+ to put run tracking into the shoe, acquired the virtual sneaker studio RTFKT in December 2021, and worked with artist Takashi Murakami on digital product in 2022. Licensing an anime property sits in that same lane: Nike treating cultural IP as material. It also carries a warning from the company's own record, because the 1987 unauthorised use of the Beatles' Revolution ended in a lawsuit and pulled ads, and Nike SB's 2005 use of Minor Threat's artwork ended in an apology. Properly licensed character product is what the brand learned to do instead.
The chassis is the point. Nike Air is a pressurised gas unit sealed into the midsole, and on an Air Max the unit is exposed, so the sole becomes the graphic element rather than a support for one. The Muscle 95 reads as a layered, panel heavy upper where colour blocking can be assigned character by character, which is how a licensed release like this carries its reference without printing it flat across the toe. Expect the collar and tongue to do the padding work and the outsole rubber, descended from Nike's waffle tread engineering, to handle grip. Quickstrike releases are made in limited runs, so treat the upper as something to preserve rather than to grind down.
