Origin
Coach was built by people who thought about hardware as seriously as leather. Bonnie Cashin, who worked on the product from 1961 to 1974, added side pockets and coin purses, brightened the palette and created the silver toggle closure she said came from the fastening on her convertible roof, the piece that became the turnlock and the house identifier at a distance. A strap extender belongs to that same tradition of small functional parts: it exists so a bag can change how it is carried. The modern brand has also leaned on named faces, with Selena Gomez announced as a partner in 2016 for the 75th anniversary and Jennifer Lopez named global face in November 2019. Construction
Smooth leather rather than pebbled, which is the right call for a part that runs through hardware and against other leather: less grain, less friction, a cleaner line where it meets the bag. Black keeps it universal across a wardrobe of Coach shoulder bags and crossbodies. The gold tone finish is the warm note, and it is what your eye reads first, so match it to the hardware already on the bag rather than fighting it.
