Designed by Designer. This piece is made in upper material. Deep Royal Blue with Racer Blue and Phantom is a motorsport palette, and the L'Art racing jacket takes that language into NOCTA's version of Nike sportswear. Racing kit is one of the few genres where graphics were always functional, built for identification at speed, and borrowing it gives a jacket a reason to be loud. Nike's apparel authority underneath the collaboration is technical rather than decorative, resting on platforms like Dri-FIT, its moisture wicking fabric system. The sublabel model lets an outside creative point of view use that engineering, which is a different arrangement from the acquisitions Nike once favoured, when it bought and later sold Cole Haan, Bauer, Starter and Umbro.
Wear one: full sport, black technical trousers and a white tee, zipped to the collar, so the blue panelling is the only pattern. Wear two: casual contrast, mid wash straight denim with a grey hood underneath, where the jacket does all the work. Occasion is street, travel and mild weather, not formal and not cold on its own. Racing cuts often sit close through the body with longer sleeves, so size up if you plan to layer. Care: wash cool on a gentle cycle, skip fabric softener since it clogs technical fabric, hang dry rather than tumble, and keep the zip closed in the wash so it does not catch the panels.
Nike's clothing followed its shoes into culture: from the 1980s onward the brand was a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion, then part of mainstream American youth dress, then a fixture of 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure wardrobes. The sublabel is the current way of keeping that presence sharp, with Nike supplying manufacturing and technical language and a partner supplying taste. It is a lighter model than ownership, which Nike has practised repeatedly, buying Converse in 2003 for 309 million dollars and the virtual sneaker studio RTFKT in December 2021. Racing graphics fit the current moment because they are borrowed authority, legible even to people outside the sport.
Racing jackets are built from panelled construction, with colour blocks that follow the seams rather than being printed across them, which is why the blue tones here read as separate fields rather than a graphic. Expect a full zip, a stand collar, and a cut that allows arm movement without the hem riding, since the source garment had to work seated and moving. Nike's Dri-FIT moisture management platform is the technical baseline running through its apparel, and it is the reason a lightweight shell from the brand tends to breathe rather than trap heat. Check the zip and cuff finishing, because on a panelled jacket those are the details that separate a good make from an average one.
