Origin
The Cloud is the model that made the rest of On possible, the everyday shape that carried the pod outsole out of triathlon and into general circulation after the company was founded in Zurich in 2010. By 2019, On product sat in roughly 6,000 retailers across 55 countries and held about 40 percent of the Swiss running shoe market, and it was the plain Cloud doing most of that work. The sixth version in Chai Sand takes the argument somewhere quieter: a warm, dusty neutral that behaves like a garment colour rather than a sportswear colour. Against that tone, the CloudTec pods stop looking clinical and start reading as a texture, which is why this colourway lands with people buying a shoe rather than a stopwatch.
Utility
Chai Sand wants earth tones around it. Look one: wide cream trousers, a chocolate knit and a tan canvas tote, where the shoe finishes the tonal run instead of interrupting it. Look two: washed khaki shorts, a white oxford worn open over a tee, for summer errands and long walking days when you want cushioning without a gym signal. It is an everyday fit with a stretchy entry, so size as normal and use thinner socks in warm weather to keep the tonal effect clean. Construction
Chai Sand is a tonal build, so the upper, midsole and pods sit in the same warm sand family and the shoe reads as one piece. The cushioning is structural rather than material: hollow CloudTec pods, foam engineered into specialised geometries that compress in two directions to take the landing and then hold you through the roll forward. That approach is why a Cloud feels firm underfoot until you load it, which is the sensation the brand has been chasing since a garden hose prototype. Design is Swiss, production sits in Indonesia and Vietnam. Light neutrals mark faster than black, so treat the upper with a fabric protector before first wear and clean spot by spot rather than soaking it.
