    Part of the Mexico 66 line. This release has a leather upper. Mineral Brown and Cream is the Mexico 66 VIN at its most earthbound. Where the shoe's competitive origin story is all speed, this colourway is all soil: a dusty, slightly greyed brown through the crossed Tiger Stripes and heel, sitting on a cream body that the vintage finish has already warmed down from white. The silhouette itself dates to 1966, when Onitsuka built the Mexico line as a flagship to run at Adidas and Puma ahead of the 1968 Mexico City Games, and it was the first shoe to wear the Tiger Stripes. Brown is a modern decision on an old shape, and it moves the shoe firmly out of the sport aisle.

    Two recipes. First, cream corduroy trousers, a chocolate brown knit polo and a camel overshirt, a tonal brown stack where the shoe finishes the column rather than interrupting it. Second, olive fatigues with a cream heavy tee and a brown leather belt, where the shoe picks up the belt and keeps everything grounded. Andrea Pompilio has been the longest running design partnership through that period, working from the Fall Winter 2013 collection through 2017 and into a creative direction role, which is how the label learned to think in full collections and muted seasonal palettes rather than in team colours. The VIN treatment tones the whole thing down, so the cream reads aged rather than fresh and the sole edge is warmed to match instead of sitting bright against the upper. Mineral Brown is a matte, low sheen colour on leather, which hides scuffs far better than any white or pastel execution of this model. There is minimal cushioning and no meaningful arch support, so the comfort case rests on how flat and flexible the shoe is rather than on any underfoot technology.
