Neutral foam is easier to style than the bright tones, so use it as a base. Recipe one: sand or stone linen trousers with a white tee, worn barefoot in hot weather, a single tonal line from ankle to shoulder. Recipe two: washed black shorts with a grey tee and short socks, where the pale foam softens an otherwise plain outfit. Foam Runners fit large, so size down, and they favour a broad foot over a narrow one. Best for travel, warm days and short errands, worst on wet smooth surfaces. Rinse with cool water and a soft cloth, do not use solvents or a machine, and dry in shade, since sun and heat will both distort the foam permanently.

The Foam Runner is the design that pushed Yeezy furthest outside sneaker culture, into general fashion and then into the mass market, where the moulded foam clog was copied at every price point within a couple of years. That imitation is the measure of it: the shape became a category. It also proved the anti branding position, because a shoe with no logo anywhere still ended up instantly identifiable. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy, and adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 after his antisemitic public remarks, which the company called unacceptable, hateful and dangerous. The silhouette kept spreading long after the deal ended.

One piece injection moulded EVA, partly made from algae derived foam, which is what gives the material its slightly waxy, low density feel. There is no upper, no lining and no separate sole, just one continuous body with vents cut through it and a ridged base, so nothing can delaminate and water passes straight through. The perforations vent heat and cut weight at the same time. In a pale sand tone every moulded ridge is visible as a soft shadow, and every scuff is visible too, since foam scars rather than wipes clean. Expect a wide, roomy fit, a firm feel that softens with body heat, and a shoe light enough that you forget you are wearing it.
