Designed by Peter Moore and released on 14 January 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in True Blue/White/Cement Grey. True Blue belongs to the Jordan 1's second life, the one that happened after the shoe stopped being performance equipment and became a colour system people collected. A deep, saturated blue on a Retro High OG is the closest the model gets to a primary colour statement without borrowing a team's identity, which makes it unusually free: no franchise, no season, no championship attached. That freedom is a product of what the first shoe achieved, selling out its initial fifty thousand pairs and passing one hundred and fifty million dollars in sales against a projection of about three million dollars over three years. Once the pattern was that valuable, colour became the brand's real design surface.
Saturated blue behaves like a navy that is awake, so treat it as a colour rather than a neutral. Wear it with grey flannel trousers and a white shirt for a sharp contrast that keeps the blue formal, or with black denim and a black hooded sweatshirt when you want the shoe to be the single point of interest. Avoid blue denim, which competes directly. The High cut needs a hem stopping above the collar. Take your usual Jordan 1 size. Clean white panels promptly with a mild solution since blue dye transfer sets fast, keep the pair dry, and stuff the toe box between wears.
The Jordan 1 arrived through advertising that made the shoe a character, with Spike Lee playing Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan in Nike's earliest campaigns, and it stayed relevant because it kept being restated in new colour. That repetition is not laziness: it is what created sneaker collecting as a mass activity and a resale market valued at roughly two billion dollars, with original pairs from the first year trading around twenty thousand dollars. Strong single colour High OGs like this one are the shoes that convert casual buyers into people with a rotation, because they are recognisably Jordan without needing anyone to explain the reference.
The Retro High OG follows the original blocked construction, leather panels cut separately across toe, quarter and eyestay, a stitched Swoosh over the quarter, a padded ankle collar and a rubber outsole with the forefoot pivot circle. Deep blue leather holds colour well and hides light scuffing better than pale panels, though the contrast against white sections makes any dye transfer immediately visible. Break in follows the usual pattern: firm and flat for the first week, then softer as the collar foam compresses and the toe box takes a crease. Lacing through all eyelets keeps the collar structured, which is most of the reason to buy a High rather than a Low.
