Released on 28 March 2023 and part of the The Roger Spin line. This release has a mesh upper in Undyed White/Indigo. The Roger Spin is the playful branch of a line that began as a limited edition. Roger Federer became a shareholder in On in November 2019, not a paid endorser, and The Roger launched in July 2020 as a lifestyle shoe. That was the moment On stopped being read only as a runner's brand. Undyed White Indigo takes the calmest possible route through that story: an unpigmented white base with an indigo hit, tennis club colours without the club crest. It sits on a company that is Swiss by design and headquarters, founded in Zurich in 2010 by Olivier Bernhard with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti, and still run with all three founders involved.
Utility
Two recipes. Summer smart: cream or stone chinos, a pale blue oxford untucked, and the indigo detail ties the shoe to the shirt without matching it exactly. Weekend: white tee, mid blue denim, a navy overshirt, where the shoe becomes the lightest thing in the fit and lifts it. Best for warm weather, long walks and situations where a running shoe would look wrong. Size true, and if between sizes go down rather than up, because a lifestyle court shape looks best fitted. Care is the price of undyed material: seal it before wearing, clean marks the day you make them with mild soap and a soft brush, keep it out of the machine, and dry in shade to stop yellowing.
Influence
Federer's involvement is the whole cultural argument of this shoe, and the wording matters: he took an equity stake in November 2019 and collaborated on The Roger from July 2020, rather than fronting a campaign. On built a tennis roster behind him, signing Iga Swiatek, Ben Shelton and Joao Fonseca in March 2023 and Flavio Cobolli in June 2024, which keeps the line connected to live sport instead of nostalgia. The Spin is the version of that lineage aimed at people who will never play a match, and an undyed white with indigo is the most restrained way to wear the association. It reads as taste rather than fandom.
Construction
Undyed is the interesting word here. It points to material left in its natural shade rather than pushed through a colour process, which is why the white looks warm and slightly uneven instead of clinical, and why it will patina rather than stay pristine. Indigo against that raw white does the work a logo would otherwise do. Underneath, this is a court derived lifestyle build rather than a race shoe: the priority is a clean toe, a supportive midfoot and a sole that behaves on hard flat surfaces. On engineers in Zurich and produces in Indonesia and Vietnam, so what you are paying for is design discipline, and in an undyed shoe that discipline is visible in every seam because nothing is hidden by pigment.
