Origin
This release has the Dark Green colourway. This hoodie comes from a short and specific window. Yeezy Gap was announced in June 2020 and delivered its first products in 2021, then in January 2022 the collaboration expanded into Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga, bringing a couture house into what had been a mass market partnership. The whole thing collapsed in September 2022. The Dove name ran across the core pieces of that line, and the Engineered by Balenciaga versions are the ones cut with the most extreme proportion. Dark Green places it away from the black and grey that dominated the range, a deep muted green closer to army canvas than to anything seasonal. It is the rarest register in a wardrobe that was built almost entirely on tonal neutrals.
Utility
Dark green wants weight underneath it, not more colour. First recipe: black wide leg technical trousers, a black tee, black boots or moulded slides with a thick sock, so the green is the only tone in play. Second recipe: raw indigo denim, a white tee showing at the collar, and a cream cap, which softens the military read of the green into something daytime and casual. Occasion: cold evenings, travel, layering season. Fit runs oversized by design, so buy your usual size if you want the intended drop and size down only if you want a normal hoodie. Care: cold wash inside out, no fabric softener because it flattens heavyweight cotton, dry flat rather than hanging so the shoulders do not stretch, and do not tumble dry on heat.
Influence
Yeezy Gap mattered because it took a design language built on limited sneaker drops and pointed it at a mass market clothing chain, and the Balenciaga chapter then pulled the same silhouettes into a luxury register. Very few projects have tried to span those two ends at once. The story is not a clean one: the Gap partnership ended in September 2022, and adidas terminated its own Yeezy partnership on 25 October 2022 after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which adidas stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous. What survives is a small closed archive of garments from a collaboration that lasted months rather than years, which is why the Engineered by Balenciaga pieces are treated as documents of a moment.
Construction
The design logic here is subtraction: no visible logo, no graphic, no contrast trim, so the piece is judged on volume and colour alone. That is consistent with the anti branding stance the label applied across its footwear, where recognition came from silhouette rather than a mark. On a hoodie it means the cut has to do all the work, and this line is known for the dropped shoulder and heavy hanging body that made it read as outerwear rather than a sweatshirt. Dark Green is dyed through with no print to crack or lift, so age shows as fade rather than damage. Wear it and the fabric collapses into the shape it wants over time, which is the intended outcome rather than a flaw.
