Alexandre Mattiussi built AMI out of a very specific frustration. He designed at Christian Dior, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs, and could not afford the clothes he was making, so in 2011 he started a house called ami, French for friend and a quiet nod to his own initials. The first Paris boutique opened at the end of 2012, the ANDAM award followed in 2013, and in 2017 he introduced the Ami de Coeur, the heart-marked logo embroidered rather than printed. It became the label's signature and its commercial engine, carrying revenue from 35 million euros to roughly 300 million. This hoodie is that idea at its most direct: a light blue body, a red heart on the chest, and nothing else asking for your attention.
Two ways to wear it. One, tonal and easy: light blue hoodie, mid-wash straight denim, white leather low-tops, and let the red heart be the only colour accent in the outfit. Two, layered up: the same hoodie under a navy or charcoal wool overcoat with black trousers, so the pale blue reads as a lining rather than casualwear, which is how the piece earns its price outside weekends. It is a unisex, classic fit hoodie, so take your usual size for a clean line, or go one up if you want the dropped, roomier look. Wash at 30 degrees on a gentle cycle, turn it inside out to protect the chest embroidery, and dry it flat so the shoulders keep their shape.
The Ami de Coeur is the smartest logo in accessible luxury because it does not read as a logo at first glance. It is a mark you either recognise or you do not, which is exactly why it travelled: from a Paris label into a global operation of dozens of stores and hundreds of stockists, backed hard enough to grow nearly tenfold in four years. In light blue with the red heart, the piece lands in the sweet spot the brand is known for, French and soft rather than streetwear-loud. It is the hoodie that works in a room where a big graphic would not, and among AMI Paris hoodies it is the colourway people ask about rather than the safe black one.
This is a loopback fleece hoodie, which is the detail that separates it from the fleece-backed sweats most brands sell: loopback leaves the inside as open loops rather than brushed pile, so it breathes instead of trapping heat and does not pill into fuzz after a season. The body is 100 percent cotton, from an organic cotton programme, with the ribbing run at 98 percent cotton and 2 percent elastane so cuffs and hem snap back instead of stretching out. The red Ami de Coeur sits embroidered on the chest with a tonal Ami embroidery under the back neckline. Metal eyelets carry the Ami Paris logo and metal cord ends stamped with the Ami de Coeur finish the drawcord. Made in Portugal.
