AMI Paris Ami de Coeur sweater purple

Origin
Alexandre Mattiussi built AMI after years inside Dior, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs, and the point was to stop designing clothes people admire and start designing clothes his friends would actually put on. Ami means friend in French and doubles as his initials, and the brand took the ANDAM prize early on. The Ami de Coeur came out of his own signature: a capital A crowned with a heart, drawn in the same typography as a playing card, so the logo carries a suit as well as a letter. It runs as a capsule twice a year rather than as a permanent stamp on everything. The wool sweater is the piece that carries it best, and purple sits outside AMI's permanent black-and-red run, which makes this a seasonal colourway rather than a shelf staple you can reorder whenever.
Utility
Purple is what lets a logo knit stop being a logo knit. Two ways to wear it. Quiet: over a white collared shirt with the collar out, charcoal trousers, black loafers, and the purple reads considered instead of loud. Loud but controlled: worn alone with raw indigo denim and white leather sneakers, everything else plain so the chest motif is the only event. Fit truth: the cut is adjusted and close, so take your normal size, and go one up for a semi-fitted cut or to layer a shirt underneath. Hand wash cool or dry clean, never tumble dry, never chlorine, and dry it flat rather than on a hanger, because wet wool stretches under its own weight. Fold it to store. To buy an AMI Paris Ami de Coeur sweater in India, take your usual European knit size.
Influence
The Ami de Coeur spent years growing purely on word of mouth before AMI gave it a campaign of its own, and when it did, it hired Jean-Paul Goude, the photographer behind the Break The Internet cover. He shot the Eiffel Tower standing in for the A and Mattiussi floating over Paris under a giant heart balloon, which tells you how the house sees the logo: not as a brand mark but as a mood. That mood scaled. AMI now runs around 75 of its own stores, sits in more than 700 multibrand retailers across 100-plus countries, and clears over 300 million euros a year. Recent seasons put Dylan O'Brien and Alex Consani in front of the camera. The logo knit is the piece that carried all of it.
Construction
It is 100 percent merino wool, knitted in Portugal, which is where the good European knit factories still are. Merino is the reason it works across a wide temperature band: fine fibres mean it insulates without the itch and the bulk you get from coarser wool, so it layers under a coat and still works alone in air conditioning. The knit is built in interlock stitch, a double-faced construction that gives the sweater more body and stops it going see-through or twisting out of shape after a few wears. The Ami de Coeur sits on the chest, ribbed trims lock the cuffs and hem so the silhouette holds. The cut is adjusted, close to the body, and AMI classes it as responsible wool, not a generic blend.
