Origin
Gymshark did not start in a boardroom. Ben Francis was 19, training at a Birmingham gym with school friends, hand sewing and screen printing kit in a garage because nothing on shelves fit the way lifters actually wanted it to. The company was incorporated in 2012, and the breakout moment came at the BodyPower Expo in Birmingham, where the stand was swarmed and the site pulled 30,000 pounds inside half an hour. That crowd wrote the brief for everything Gymshark has made since. The fabric is 95 percent cotton with 5 percent elastane at 180 gsm, which puts it in heavyweight territory: it holds its shape through a full session instead of clinging to sweat, the cotton majority keeps it breathable against skin, and the elastane stops the hem and sleeve openings bagging out after repeated washes. An oversized Gymshark graphic runs across the back, so the shirt still reads when you are facing the mirror rack. In white, the denser 180 gsm cloth earns its keep twice over, because heavier cotton stays opaque across the shoulders.
