Nike Everyday Plus Cushioned Crew Socks ( Pack of 3)
Nike Everyday Plus Cushioned Crew Socks ( Pack of 3)

Origin
Socks are the least discussed thing Nike makes and among the most used. The company's whole founding logic was that the equipment closest to the runner was being neglected: in 1964 Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight started Blue Ribbon Sports in Eugene, Oregon because Bowerman thought American runners deserved lighter, better shoes than the domestic market bothered to make. That attention to the layer against the skin is where a cushioned crew sock earns its place. Bought as a three pack, this is not a purchase you think about, it is the base layer of a wardrobe that already runs on Nike footwear, and the crew height is the one that has outlasted every trend cycle that tried to shorten it.
Utility
One: the sportswear standard, crew pulled straight above a low top sneaker with shorts or a cropped track pant, cuff sitting mid calf, no scrunching. Two: the practical version, worn under a mid or high top for long walking days where the cushioning under the ball of the foot is doing genuine work and the crew height stops the collar chewing your ankle. This is a training and daily wear sock rather than a dress sock, so keep it out of hard leather footwear where the volume will crowd the fit. Wash in cold water, avoid fabric softener since it coats the fibres and kills wicking, and air dry or tumble low so the cuff elastic keeps its grip.
Influence
Nike's grip on everyday American dress came through footwear, but the visual grammar came with it: from the 1980s the brand's shoes were staples of urban and hip hop fashion, and by the 1990s and 2000s the whole athleisure look, tracksuit, sneaker and visible crew sock, had become normal clothing rather than gym clothing. The crew sock is the smallest piece of that language and the most durable. Pulled up over a tapered pant or worn deliberately visible above a low top, it reads as sportswear literacy rather than accident. Just Do It, written by Dan Wieden in 1988, sold the attitude that made even the plain pieces legible.
Construction
A cushioned crew sock is built in zones rather than as a single knit. The underfoot carries added terry cushioning, which is what the Plus name refers to, while the arch is knitted tighter to hold the sock in place through a day of walking and the cuff is ribbed to stop it sliding down the calf. Nike's fabric platform for anything worn against the skin is built around moisture wicking, which matters more in a sock than almost anywhere else, because damp is what causes both odour and blisters. Sold as three pairs, so rotation is built in, which is the single biggest factor in how long knitted cushioning survives. Wash cool and dry flat to keep the elastic honest.
