Cloudrunner is On's stability-minded daily trainer, and the second generation in Undyed Sand strips the colour question out of it. The name points at material left close to its natural state rather than pushed to a colour, which gives you a warm off-white sand tone that changes slightly across panels instead of matching perfectly. That imperfection is the appeal. On has always sold engineering rather than decoration, going back to 2010 in Zurich when Olivier Bernhard glued garden hose sections to a sole to test whether a hollow shape could land soft and push off firm. An undyed daily trainer is that same instinct applied to the upper: fewer processes, more honesty about what the material actually is.
For running, keep it for steady mileage and long easy efforts where the wide platform pays off, with plain black or cream shorts and a lightweight tee. For everyday, wear it with off-white or ecru wide-leg trousers and a soft grey sweatshirt, keeping the whole outfit in the same warm neutral range so the undyed tone looks deliberate. Protect it early: use a fabric protector spray before first wear, brush dust off dry, and clean marks with a barely damp cloth and mild soap. Air dry only, and expect the sand tone to warm up with age.
On's rise is unusually fast for a footwear company. The Cloudrunner uses a wide, stable CloudTec geometry with precisely engineered cavities that channel energy to reduce lateral wobble, which is the specific reason to pick it over a softer, taller Cloud. CloudTec itself is a structural cushioning system, foam shaped into pods rather than a foam slab, compressing horizontally and vertically to absorb impact and support the foot through the stride. The undyed sand upper is the visual counterweight to all that engineering, quiet where the sole is busy. Be realistic about the colour: an undyed material shows dirt and body oils faster than a dyed one and will patina rather than stay pristine, which is part of what you are choosing.
