Released on 22 June 2023 and part of the Court Borough line. This release has a leather upper in University Red/White/Black. Not every Nike is a grail, and the Court Borough exists to prove it. Nike has always sold across the whole range, from the imported Onitsuka Tiger shoes Blue Ribbon Sports moved out of Phil Knight's car in 1964 to the carbon plated racing shoes it sells today, and the company's scale depends on the shoes at the accessible end. The Court Borough Low Recraft is a grade school court shoe, built to the shape of Nike's basketball heritage at a price a family can repeat every school year. Black with University Red is the most classic way to buy it: a dark upper that hides wear, with red at the Swoosh doing the identifying.
Two ways it earns its keep. School and everyday: dark trousers or joggers, a hoodie, and a shoe that shrugs off a playground. Weekend sport: casual play, court games and general running around, with a cushioned sock to compensate for the thin sockliner. This is not a shoe for actual competitive basketball or for distance running. Buy with a thumbnail of growing room but no more, since a loose court shoe rolls the ankle. Wipe the synthetic upper with a damp cloth and mild soap, scrub the outsole separately, air dry away from radiators, and replace when the outsole pattern goes smooth.
Nike's status in mainstream youth dress was built by Air Jordans, Air Force 1s and Air Max models becoming everyday wear from the 1980s onward, and that only happened because the look was available at every price. In India the accessible end has mattered even more: Nike entered in 1995 through a licensing deal with Sierra Industrial Enterprises, later SSIPL, and struggled for years partly because it priced roughly thirty percent above competitors. A shoe like this is the counterweight, the Swoosh at an entry price, which is how a brand keeps its next generation of buyers.
A simple low top court build: a synthetic upper with stitched overlays, a padded collar, a foam sockliner and a rubber outsole with a court pattern. The Recraft update is about making the silhouette cleaner and lighter for younger feet rather than adding technology, so there is no visible Air here and no plate. What matters at this price is durability in the right places, which means reinforcement at the toe and a sole that does not shred on tarmac. Black hides scuffs, which is the practical case for this colourway over a white one. The GS designation means grade school sizing, not adult scaled sizing.
