Alexandre Mattiussi founded AMI in 2011 after designing at Dior, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs, and the name does double duty: ami is French for friend, and it sits on his own initials. He had spent years drawing cashmere he could not afford to buy, so he built a house aimed at a wider room rather than a runway front row. That is how AMI became the accessible-luxury name it is.
