Culture Note™

Adi Dassler drew the Samba in 1949, the year adidas itself was founded, and put it on sale in 1950 as a football boot for frozen and hard winter pitches. The gum sole was the invention: a suction pattern that gripped ground other boots slid across. The name was marketing aimed at South America, borrowed from the Brazilian dance and music form, and it worked well enough that the shoe never left. More than 35 million pairs later it sits second only to the Stan Smith in adidas history. This pair is the Samba OG in Cloud White, Collegiate Burgundy and Gum, style code IF3813, a 2024 colorway that took the most-copied silhouette in football and gave it a deep wine overlay instead of the default black.
