Released on 6 January 2021 and part of the Heritage Vulc SB line. This release has a suede upper in Summit White/White/Gum Light Brown/Navy. Nike SB has existed since March 2002, when Sandy Bodecker built a skate-specific arm of Nike and rebuilt the Dunk for grip tape. Everything the line has done since orbits two ideas: cupsoles for impact, vulcanised soles for feel. The Nike SB Heritage Vulc is the vulc side of that argument in its most honest form, a low top skate shoe with no signature name attached and nothing to prove. This Summit White and Navy pair, style code CD5010-102, is the cleanest way it has been done: off white canvas across the panels, a navy Swoosh cut over them, gum light brown underneath. No collab, no hype tax, no backstory you need to memorise before you put them on. It is the pair you buy because it looks right, then keep because it actually skates.
Two ways to run it. One: loose black carpenter pants, a navy or plain white tee, white crew socks pulled up, so the navy Swoosh and the gum sole are the only colour anywhere in the fit. Two: mid blue straight leg denim cuffed once over the collar, an oatmeal knit or cream hoodie, letting the summit white upper and gum bottom warm the whole thing. Nike SB Heritage Vulc sizing runs true to size, so take your usual Nike, and if you sit between sizes go up rather than down since canvas gives less than leather. Break-in is short because the vulcanised sole is flexible from day one. For care, brush the suede dry rather than soaking it, and lift canvas marks with a soft brush and mild soap so the summit white does not grey out.
Nike SB is the rare skate line that collectors and working skaters both fight over, and most of the noise goes to Dunks with a story attached. The Heritage Vulc lives on the other side of that. It moves quietly through skate shops because it does the job at a price that does not sting when you shred a panel, and among vulc loyalists that earns real respect: no gimmick, no air unit to bottom out, just rubber, canvas and feel. The Summit White and Navy make-up is the version that reads as skate to people who skate and as a clean minimalist sneaker to everyone else. That double life is why it stays in rotation long after the drop cycle has moved somewhere louder.
The upper mixes suede and canvas, canvas across the panels so the shoe breathes and creases soft, suede placed where an ollie foot destroys everything else. The sole is vulcanised, meaning the gum rubber is fused directly to the upper rather than stitched onto a bulky cup, and that is why the shoe feels broken in on the first wear instead of the third week. Nike thinned the gum rubber out in key areas, so you keep board feel through the arch without giving up the tread that locks you to grip tape. Exposed foam on the tongue is a deliberate vintage skate cue that doubles as padding against board impact. Inside, a foam sockliner and a padded collar carry the hours you spend off the board.
