Released on 23 April 2025 and part of the ReactX Rejuven8 Slide line. This release has a reactx upper in Black/Black/Black. Triple black is the version of any product bought by people who do not want a conversation about it. On a ReactX Rejuven8 slide that instinct fits the object perfectly, because recovery footwear has never been about being seen. What it is about is the material under the foot, which is the oldest concern in Nike's history: Bill Bowerman poured rubber into his wife's waffle iron in Oregon because he believed the sole was where a shoe was decided, and every foam platform the brand has built since is a continuation of that. Blacked out, the Rejuven8 stops looking like sports equipment and starts looking like something you can wear without explaining, which widens its use enormously.
All black is the least demanding option, so use it wherever a slide is acceptable. First recipe: black shorts and a plain tee for post training walks, gym exits and hotel corridors, the actual brief. Second: wide black trousers with an oversized grey tee and a black crew sock, an intentional summer city look that works precisely because the shoe adds no colour. Do not use it for anything requiring lateral movement, since a single band offers no hold in a turn. Rinse with fresh water after pool or beach exposure because chlorine and salt break down foam, dry it in shade rather than sun, and wipe the footbed regularly so it does not go slick.
Slides came out of locker rooms because athletes needed something to put on when the session ended, and everyone else adopted them once comfort became a legitimate design goal rather than a compromise. Nike's authority in that space rests on an endorsement history reaching back to Ilie Nastase as its first professional athlete endorser and Steve Prefontaine as its first track endorser, and running through sponsored athletes including Sebastian Coe, Michael Johnson and Allyson Felix. The same cultural shift that took Air Max models from the running aisle into mainstream youth dress and then into athleisure is what allows a blacked out recovery slide to function as ordinary footwear rather than as gym kit.
The build is a moulded contoured footbed on a ReactX foam platform, with a single wide band across the forefoot providing all the retention and no adjustment anywhere. Fit therefore comes from the moulding and from sizing, so a half size error is not something you can lace your way out of. Nike's foam engineering runs from Lunarlite through to ZoomX, the altered Pebax used in the Vaporfly, and the discipline throughout is balancing softness against rebound so a platform does not simply flatten under load. Triple black is the practical end of the range: it hides pool water marks, gym dust, footbed darkening and general abuse better than any other finish on a slide.
