Culture Note™
Released on 15 June 2025 and part of the Adizero Adios Pro 4 line. This release has a lightlock upper in Core Black/Core Black/Grey Five. The Adios Pro is the sharp end of adidas. Adios is the name the company has attached to its marathon racing shoes for years, and the Pro 4 is the current generation of that lineage, built for people whose relationship with a shoe is measured in seconds per kilometre. Black with grey is the racing colourway that does not try to be a spectacle, which suits a shoe whose argument is entirely mechanical. The company behind it has been chasing this since the 1930s, when the Dassler brothers persuaded Jesse Owens to wear their handmade spikes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and proved that a small workshop could outfit the fastest people alive.
Two ways. Race day with a full kit, singlet and split shorts, where the shoe is the last decision you make and the black keeps it from photographing louder than you do. Or a weekly tempo session over half marathon pace, paired with tights and a light shell, keeping easy miles for another pair entirely. Do not use this as a walking shoe, because the midsole is built for speed and degrades under slow load. Size with a full thumbnail of room and use thin socks. Air after every run, brush off grit rather than washing, and never dry it near heat.
Modern road racing has become a technology argument conducted in public, and adidas chose to argue with rods rather than plates. That choice put the Adios name on finish lines and made it a reference point for runners who follow shoe design as closely as they follow results. The brand carries this credibility differently from its lifestyle side: the Originals archive is about who wore what, the adizero line is about what happened when they did. Owning a Pro 4 signals you are on the second side of that divide.
This is the shoe where adidas's most distinctive engineering choice lives. The adizero competition line uses thermoplastic polyester elastomer midsoles with embedded carbon rods rather than a single carbon plate, a decision that lets different parts of the foot get different stiffness instead of forcing one rigid lever through the whole stride. The upper is minimal, thin and structured only where it must be. Everything is subordinated to weight and return. In black and grey the construction reads as equipment, not fashion. It is a race-day and fast-session shoe, and it will wear down faster under casual use than any lifestyle sneaker in the adidas catalogue.
