Released on 20 June 2024 and part of the Adizero SL line. This release has a mesh upper in Cloud White/Core Black/Orange. Adizero SL2 is the workhorse in a line famous for its racers. adizero is where adidas argues over grams, the label attached to its fastest competitive shoes, and the SL exists so that runners who train in that ecosystem have something to do the everyday miles in without stepping into a completely different shoe. The second generation refines that brief. White with Black and Orange is a classic running palette for a reason: a pale midsole reads the stack height clearly, black keeps the upper from showing every mile, and orange gives the shoe visibility at dawn and dusk when most training actually happens. It is honest, unglamorous product from the most technically serious part of the company.
Utility
Two uses. First, the obvious one: daily training miles, easy runs and steady efforts on road, where a light shoe with a firm ride keeps your legs honest. Second, as a fast day shoe if you do not want to race in a plated model, since it handles tempo work comfortably. It is not built for trail or for heavy heel strikers wanting maximum cushioning. Running lasts fit close through the midfoot with room at the toe, so go true or a half size up if you run long. Rinse grit off the outsole, never machine wash, air dry stuffed with paper, and rotate with a second pair so the foam recovers between runs.
Influence
adidas has always alternated between engineering claims and cultural adoption, and the running line is where the claims get tested. Boost arrived in 2013 as a thermoplastic polyurethane developed with BASF and rebuilt the company's technical credibility, carrying the Ultraboost, NMD, Energy Boost, Pure Boost and adizero Adios Boost. Before that came spectacle: the adidas 1 of 2005 with a microprocessor running five million calculations a second, and springblade with blades in place of foam. The adizero line is the survivor of all that, because it is judged by people with watches. A daily trainer inside that line inherits the credibility without needing to make the claims.
Construction
The SL sits below the carbon rod racers in the adizero hierarchy, where the competitive models use thermoplastic polyester elastomer midsoles with embedded carbon rods rather than a single plate. Without that system, a shoe like this leans on midsole geometry and foam tuning to give a light, responsive ride at a weight far below a typical cushioned trainer. The upper is thin engineered mesh, cut to save weight, with structure concentrated at the heel where you need it. The Three Stripes appear as part of the midfoot support rather than as pure decoration, which is closer to their original purpose as reinforcement stitching. Expect a firm, quick ride rather than a soft one.
