Released on 14 June 2023 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Green/Supplier Colour. The Samba started as a problem to solve. Adi Dassler built it in the late 1940s for players trying to train on frozen pitches, and released it in 1950. His fix was gum rubber: a sticky sole split into three sections covered in small suction cups that gripped cold, hard ground, plus a reinforced suede panel over the toe to shield the foot from stiff leather. That panel became the T-toe and it is still on the shoe. adidas named it Samba after the Brazilian dance and music genre so it would land at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, a country with no icy pitches at all. It moved indoors with futsal in the 1970s, onto skateboards in the 1990s, then into British terrace culture, where it stopped being sportswear.
Two ways to wear it. One, the easy one: cropped dark denim breaking at the ankle, a white tee, and let the green stripes be the only colour in the fit. Two, dress it up: pleated charcoal trousers with a sharp crease and a knit polo, where the low gum sole stops the whole thing reading sporty. Sizing is the thing to get right if you are looking to buy adidas Samba OG in India. It runs true to size in length but narrow across the forefoot, a last inherited from indoor football, and it will not stretch in width. Narrow feet, take your true size; normal to wide feet, go half a size up. Brush the suede toe and hit it with protector spray before first wear, and keep the gum sole out of wet mud.
No sneaker has had a bigger second act. The Samba spent decades as a futsal shoe and a terrace staple before becoming the default going-out shoe that quietly replaced the chunky runner. Part of that is collaboration: Grace Wales Bonner and Pharrell Williams both worked the extended-tongue terrace look into their Samba releases and dragged the silhouette back into the fashion conversation. Part of it is that the shape simply works, low and slim in a way that flatters trousers instead of fighting them. Green is the colour that reads most like football on a Samba without going full retro kit, so the white and green pair tends to be what people buy once they already own a black pair and want something with a bit of pitch in it.
The Samba OG is the purist spec: a leather upper paired with suede, sitting on a contrasting gum rubber outsole. On this Footwear White and green pair the leather stays clean and bright, the suede T-toe brings the texture and the scuff protection the shoe was originally designed around, and the green three stripes and heel tab carry all the colour. Gold foil Samba branding sits on the side panel with the Trefoil tongue tag above it. The gum outsole is the functional heart of the shoe, low-profile and grippy on smooth indoor floors and hard pavement alike, and it is what makes a Samba feel planted rather than cushioned. This is a flat, minimal build, not a comfort trainer, and that low stack is why it works under tailoring.
