Designed by Peter Moore and released on 10 January 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Lightning/Chlorophyll. Chlorophyll arrives on the silhouette that started the entire line. Nike signed Chicago Bulls rookie Michael Jordan on 26 October 1984 to a six year deal worth 2.5 million dollars, roughly three times any other contract in the league, and unusually gave him a royalty on every pair sold. Peter Moore, working with Bruce Kilgore, drew the first shoe; it was produced for Jordan on 17 November 1984 and reached shops on 1 April 1985. The Low is that same panelled upper with the ankle collar cut away, which is how the shoe escaped the court and became daily footwear. Chlorophyll takes it somewhere the 1985 palette never went: a saturated green worked against off white and black, a Special Edition treatment rather than an archive reissue.
Two ways to wear the green. First, tonal restraint: black straight leg denim with a break just above the collar, a plain white tee, black crew socks so the green is the only colour in the outfit. Second, contrast: ecru wide leg chinos cuffed once, an oxford shirt in pale blue, low ankle socks so the leather sits against skin. Fit runs true to length but narrow at the midfoot on the original last, so wide feet should try a half size up. Occasion is daytime and casual: office floors, gigs, long walks. Care: brush the perforations dry before they cake, use a leather conditioner sparingly on the green panels, and keep them out of prolonged sun so the dye does not flatten.
The Air Jordan 1 is the shoe that turned sneakers into a collecting culture. Its first 50,000 pairs sold out and the model passed 150 million dollars in sales, far beyond the three million dollars over three years Nike had projected. Spike Lee, directing and playing Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, put the shoe into film language, and rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z wrote it into records. The Banned advertising, built on the NBA's uniform rule and Nike's willingness to pay the fine, taught the market that transgression sells. A green Low sits at the loose, contemporary end of that lineage, closer to skate shops than to hardwood.
You get the original Air Jordan 1 pattern in leather, wing tip toe overlay, perforated toe box for airflow, eyestay and heel counter cut as separate panels so the green reads in blocks rather than as a wash. The Swoosh is a stitched panel, not a print, which is why the colour blocking on this shoe holds its edges after months of wear. Underneath sits a rubber cupsole with the pivot circle at the forefoot, a court pattern that grips smooth floors and wears slowly on pavement. The low collar is unpadded compared with the High, so the shoe breaks in around your ankle bone quickly. Style code HF4823 100 marks it as the Special Edition run.
