Designed by Peter Moore and released on 10 May 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Dark Powder Blue/Dark Powder Blue/Sail. UNC is Michael Jordan's own university, and North Carolina remains one of the college basketball programmes Jordan Brand outfits, alongside Georgetown, Cincinnati and Michigan. That makes a Carolina blue Air Jordan 1 the most personal colourway in the entire line: not a team he was paid to represent but the one he played for before Nike signed him in October 1984. Reimagined is the treatment that gives the shoe an aged look, the leather and midsole finished to suggest a pair that has been sitting somewhere since the eighties rather than one that just came out of a box. In a grade school size run, that combination puts the oldest story in the brand into a shoe built for people who were not alive for any of it.
Recipe one: mid grey sweat trousers, a white hoodie, a navy jacket, and let the Carolina blue be the only saturated colour anywhere in the fit. Recipe two: dark wash denim with a clean cuff, a cream knit, and a light jacket, where the blue reads as spring rather than sport. Skip navy up top, which flattens the panels. The High wants a hem above the collar. Grade school sizing runs smaller than men's, so check the conversion rather than assuming. Keep them for dry days: an aged finish tolerates scuffs happily but not water marks on pale blue leather.
Jordan Brand's college programme is where the line's origins stay visible, and North Carolina is its emotional centre. The brand has since moved far past basketball entirely, taking on the Michigan Wolverines football programme in 2016 and sponsoring Paris Saint Germain in 2018, its first association football club, while generating about 5.1 billion dollars for Nike by 2022. A Carolina blue AJ1 cuts through all of that expansion and points back at a college player. It is also one of the few colourways whose meaning survives outside the United States without any explanation, because the blue itself has become the reference.
A leather High on a rubber cupsole with a padded collar and the Wings mark that identifies the earliest era of the line. The Reimagined treatment changes what you are maintaining: the pale blue panels and the off white midsole are finished to look aged from the start, so ordinary yellowing and scuffing blend into the design rather than spoiling it. Do not try to clean it back to bright white, because there is no bright white to return to. Use foam sparingly, a dry brush for the panels, and accept the tone. Carolina blue leather does show dye transfer from dark denim, so keep raw indigo away from it. Air dry, and store out of direct sun.
