Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 13 December 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 11 line. This release has a patent leather upper in Black/Gamma Blue/Black/Varsity Maize. Gamma Blue is one of the Air Jordan 11's defining colour statements, built on the model that put patent leather onto a basketball court and by doing so brought a formal wear material into performance sport. The 11 came from the Tinker Hatfield run, when Nike had handed the line to a designer who turned a single signature shoe into a design series with its own language. This retro returns the shade to the same architecture. Black above, an electric blue running through the sole and trims, it is the make up that shows how much of the 11's drama comes from the contrast between a matte upper and a glossy base. Black upper, electric base, so build a dark outfit and let the sole line glow. First: black tapered trousers with a break just at the collar, a black knit, silver hardware only, so the blue is the single colour in the frame. Second: dark indigo denim, a grey crewneck and a black overcoat, using the denim to echo the blue at a lower intensity. Occasion is evening and event, dry weather. Fit is true to size with a close collar. Care: soft dry cloth on the patent, never a brush, clean the translucent sole edges early since they discolour, and store boxed away from heat and sunlight.
The 11 is the reason people wear basketball shoes with suits, and its patent leather decision is one of the clearest cases of the brand rewriting a rule rather than following one. That instinct started early: the Banned advertising was built on the NBA's uniform rule requiring shoes to be at least 51 percent white and Nike's willingness to pay the 5,000 dollar per game fine rather than redesign. Air Jordan reached culture through the collision of basketball and hip hop, with rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z writing the shoes into records, and the 11 is the model that carried it into formalwear.
The 11 pairs a patent leather mudguard around the lower half of the shoe with a lighter upper above it, a high padded collar and a carbon fibre shank plate of the type the line adopted for torsional stiffness. Nike Air cushioning has been in the range since the Air Jordan II. The blue is carried in the sole unit and trims rather than the upper, which means the part that shows wear first is also the part carrying the colour, so outsole care matters more here than on a shoe with a white bottom. The patent scratches rather than scuffs, and scratches do not brush out.
