Bad Bunny x adidas Forum Buckle Low The First Cafe
Bad Bunny x adidas Forum Buckle Low The First Cafe
Culture Note™️ / ملاحظة الثقافة
Origin
Released on 17 March 2021 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a suede upper in Cardboard/Supplier Colour/Mesa. The Forum came out of adidas basketball in 1984 with an ankle strap and a high collar, a court shoe built to hold a foot through lateral movement. Bad Bunny, listed among adidas collaborators, took that hardware and made it the whole personality. The Forum Buckle Low replaces the familiar lace and strap arrangement with an oversized buckle closure, which turns a functional detail into the loudest thing on the shoe. The First Cafe is the softly toned, coffee leaning colourway in that run, deliberately warm and worn looking rather than court white. It reads as a shoe made by someone who grew up seeing the Forum as an object rather than as equipment, and rebuilt it accordingly.
Utility
Two ways to wear it. Loose cream carpenter trousers with a brown suede jacket keeps everything in the same warm family and lets the buckle read as jewellery. Or contrast it: black straight leg jeans, a white tee and a cropped bomber, so the coffee tone becomes the only warm thing in the outfit. Wear it with the strap end tucked if you want it quieter, left long if you do not. It runs like a standard Forum, so true to size for most feet, with a slightly roomy toe box. Keep the buckle away from door frames and desk legs, condition the upper occasionally so the warm tone does not dry out, and brush rather than soak if the leather picks up rain.
Influence
adidas effectively invented the modern designer sneaker partnership, running from Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 and Stella McCartney since 2004 through Jeremy Scott, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang, then extending the same logic into music with Pharrell Williams, Bad Bunny and Beyonce. Bad Bunny's adidas work belongs to the music side of that lineage, the branch that began when Run-DMC wrote My Adidas unpaid and the deal followed the song rather than commissioning it. What makes the Forum Buckle Low land is that it does not restore an archive shoe, it rewrites one detail until the silhouette becomes something else. That is collaboration doing actual work rather than adding a logo.
Construction
The buckle is the build. Where the original Forum used a hook and loop ankle strap, this one runs an outsized metal buckle across the midfoot, so the shoe is tightened in one motion and the strap end is left visible as a design element. The rest keeps the Forum's basketball bones: a low cut leather upper, a padded collar and a rubber cupsole with the wide flat footprint a court shoe needs. Style code GW0264. The warm, cafe leaning tone across the upper means marks show as shading rather than as dirt, which suits the shoe. Expect the buckle hardware to pick up micro scratches quickly, and expect the leather to soften and crease at the flex point within a few wears.
