Designed by Bill Bowerman and released on 23 June 2022 as part of Nike's Blazer line. This release has a leather upper in White/Photon Dust/Light Smoke Grey/University Red. The Blazer is the plainest shoe in Nike's archive and the one where the Swoosh is largest, which makes the Jumbo treatment a joke that only works on this silhouette. Jumbo means the Swoosh is oversized beyond its usual proportion, stretched across the panel until it dominates the shoe. Given that the mark was drawn by a design student for a company that had only just stopped calling itself Blue Ribbon Sports, and first appeared in June 1971, blowing it up to fill an entire quarter panel is Nike enjoying its own history. White with University Red is the most Nike combination there is: the colour pairing that has run through the brand's court shoes since the beginning, applied to the simplest shape it owns.
Two fits. First, sports classic: light blue denim, a white tee, a red detail above the waist like a cap or a knit stripe, so the colour repeats rather than sits alone. Second, clean monochrome plus one: all black or all grey with the shoe as the only white and red on you, which flatters the Blazer's long, low shape. Cuff or crop your trousers because the Blazer's proportion disappears under a full break. Best on dry days and warm weather, poor in rain given the white base. Blazers run long and narrow, so most people size down half. Brush suede parts dry, use a white sole cleaner on the midsole, and protect the toe before first wear.
Nike's court shoes travelled from basketball into everyday dress in the 1980s and became status symbols in urban and hip hop fashion, and the Blazer went with them as the cheapest, most stripped back option in the line. That has made it the silhouette designers and skaters keep coming back to, because there is almost nothing on it to argue with. The Jumbo treatment reads as a wink at that plainness. Red and white is the colourway Nike has used to signal itself since the earliest days, which is why this pair looks like a classic even on a shoe you have never seen before.
Style code DQ8769 100 marks it as a white grounded build with University Red as the contrast. The Blazer Low 77 is a low panelled upper on a flat sole with minimal cushioning, so it sits much closer to the ground than a Dunk or an Air Force 1 and creases quickly across the toe. The Jumbo Swoosh is stitched as a raw edge overlay in most builds of this type, which gives the shoe a slightly unfinished, handmade look on purpose. Because the Swoosh covers so much of the panel, it also carries more of the structure, so keep the stitching clean and dry. A white base with red contrast shows every scuff on the toe box.
