Designed by Peter Moore and released on 20 October 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Legend Blue. Patent leather is the one material Jordan can claim outright. It arrived on the Air Jordan XI, where Tinker Hatfield put a formal wear surface onto a basketball court, and that single decision is why the XI still gets worn with suits. A Jordan 1 Low SE in Legend Blue patent takes that borrowed material back down the line to the model Peter Moore drew in 1984. The result is a shoe with two different histories layered on top of each other: the original 1985 silhouette carrying the material code of a model that came a decade later. Legend Blue keeps it cool and pale rather than loud, so the gloss registers as finish rather than costume, which is the difference between a patent shoe you wear and one you photograph.
Gloss needs restraint elsewhere. Recipe one: black tailored trousers, a white shirt untucked, a navy blazer, and the blue patent reading as a deliberate substitute for a dress shoe. Recipe two: light wash denim, a grey sweatshirt, and a navy cap, where the shine is the only polished thing you own that day. Do not add a second glossy item. Lows take a cropped or cuffed hem so the finish is visible. Fit runs true, though patent gives less than soft leather so allow a break in week. Wipe after every wear, keep them off gritty pavement, and store them in a bag rather than stacked against other shoes.
Patent leather is the reason Jordan footwear crossed into formal dress at all, and it is a decision that came from inside the design office rather than from a marketing brief. That willingness to import material from outside sport is the same instinct behind Jordan Brand's partner list, which runs from Off-White under Virgil Abloh and Dior through Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS. When you wear a patent Low you are wearing the compressed version of that argument: a shoe built for a court, finished in a material meant for a dinner jacket, on a silhouette that has been part of street dress since the late 1980s.
The build is the standard Low framework, a leather based upper over a rubber cupsole with a stitched Swoosh and an open ankle, but the patent panels change how you own it. Patent does not breathe like tumbled leather and it does not crease politely; it folds sharply at the toe and holds those lines permanently. That is the trade for the shine. It cleans easily with a damp cloth and needs no conditioner, but it scuffs against hard edges and the marks sit on the surface where the eye lands first. Lace it slightly looser than you would a matte pair so the flex point moves, and never force dry it, since heat clouds a glossy finish for good.
