Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 18 December 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 12 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Black/Game Royal. Blueberry is a colour name that tells you exactly how far the Air Jordan 12 has travelled from its original job. This is a model from the era when Nike had put Tinker Hatfield in charge and each shoe added to a growing design language rather than repeating the last: the elephant print arrived on the III, the Jumpman moved to the tongue, patent leather appeared on the XI. The 12 belongs to that stretch of models built to look substantial and engineered. Putting it in a deep berry blue with no team association at all is Jordan Brand treating its own archive as a colour canvas, which is what a Nike division with its own calendar gets to do.
A saturated blue on a bulky shoe wants a plain, dark outfit. Black straight leg trousers with a grey or white tee lets the colour be the single event, and the weight of the silhouette balances a heavier top. The second recipe leans sportswear: navy or black track trousers with a plain crew, the blue reading as tonal rather than loud. Avoid pairing with other blues, which almost never match. The Air Jordan 12 is one of the models that keeps the mid nineties in circulation, which matters because that period is when the line stopped being a signature shoe and started becoming a business: Jordan Brand was established as a standalone Nike division in 1997 and by 2022 was generating about 5.1 billion dollars, with a reported 150 to 256 million dollars going to Jordan under the royalty structure agreed in 1984. The 12 is a heavier, more enclosed silhouette than the Air Jordan 1 family, with a full upper and a substantial sole unit, and it wears with real presence on foot. A saturated blue across that surface makes the shoe read as a single solid volume rather than a set of panels. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the Air Jordan II. Two practical points: deep dyes on a large upper can transfer onto light hems when new, so start with dark socks and dark trousers, and any retro of an older model deserves caution about age, since polyurethane midsoles degrade through hydrolysis and Nike has not published which polyurethane it uses.
