Race day: this is a marathon and half marathon tool, worn with thin technical socks and nothing that adds weight, and it rewards a runner who can hold a strong turnover for the full distance. Second, sharp sessions: tempo blocks and race pace intervals, used sparingly, since ZoomX loses its bounce faster than standard midsole foams and every easy mile spent in them is wasted life. Do not use them for daily mileage, walking or gym work. Size as you would other Nike racers, snug with a thumbnail of toe room. Care is minimal but strict: never machine wash, never leave them in a hot car, and let them decompress fully between runs.

The plated racing era is the most consequential chapter since visible Air. Wearing the women's Alphafly is a statement about intent: this is not a shoe anyone buys to walk around in.

A racing shoe, which means every decision is about returning energy rather than about durability. ZoomX foam does the cushioning, a carbon fibre plate runs through the midsole to stiffen the platform and resist the foot collapsing at toe off, and the upper is a minimal engineered textile that holds the foot with as little material as possible. The result is light, unstable at walking pace and increasingly natural the faster you go. World Athletics issued rules on 31 January 2020 capping sole thickness at 40mm and permitting one rigid plate, and requiring shoes to be generally available at retail, and the racing line has been designed within those limits since. Total Orange covers the whole upper, so the shape reads as one continuous piece.
