Released on 1 January 2018 and part of the Court Borough line. This release has the White/White/Black colourway. The Court Borough is Nike's plainest court shoe, a mid-cut built from the same grammar as the Blazer and the Dunk with none of the collector weight attached to either. That is its usefulness. In white with black and a speckled sole, it becomes a genuinely everyday shoe: the panel breaks give it structure, the speckle gives the bottom some interest, and nothing about it is asking for attention. Nike's court silhouettes have been leaving the court and entering ordinary wardrobes since the 1980s, when basketball product became a fixture of urban dress and then of mainstream American youth uniform. This is the accessible end of that lineage, the version people actually wear out.
Two recipes. First, uniform-simple: mid-blue denim, a white tee, a navy or grey overshirt, with the shoe as clean punctuation at the floor. Second, layered for cold: black jeans tucked slightly over the mid collar with a heavy jacket, where the higher cut gives the ankle some visual weight. Court shoes tend to run true, so take your normal size and expect a slightly narrow toe box. Good for school runs, daily wear, travel and standing, not for sport. Clean the white panels early with mild soap and a soft brush, use a magic eraser gently on the midsole, avoid the washing machine, and let them dry away from direct heat.
Not every important Nike shoe is a famous one. The company's real reach came from making court silhouettes cheap and available enough that they became default footwear, which is how Air Force 1s, Air Max models and Dunks all ended up as staples of everyday dress rather than sporting equipment. Nike's voice in that period was Just Do It, written by Dan Wieden in 1988, whose first film starred 80 year old runner Walt Stack, a deliberately ordinary hero. A plain white mid-cut court shoe with a speckled sole is the most literal expression of that idea in the catalogue: sport dress made completely normal.
The construction is simple by design: a panelled upper in large flat sections, a padded collar that sits at or just above the ankle for a mid cut, a straightforward midsole and a rubber outsole. The speckled treatment on the sole is a finish decision rather than a technical one, and it earns its place practically by disguising the scuffs and grime a white-soled shoe collects within a fortnight. Nike's outsole design thinking descends from Bill Bowerman's waffle iron experiments, the pursuit of tread that grips without adding weight. In wear, expect a firm, flat ride with no visible cushioning system, a mid collar that softens quickly, and an upper that creases evenly across the toe.
