Nike Dunk Low Valentines Day 2024

The Valentine's Dunk is an annual exercise in how far pink can be pushed on a basketball silhouette before it stops looking like a sneaker. The 2024 version leans into soft pinks and reds over a pale base, using the Dunk Low's panelling to separate the tones instead of blending them, which keeps the shoe from turning into a single sugary mass. Nike has built its identity on colour blocking as a communication system, anchored by the Swoosh that Carolyn Davidson drew and the company first used in June 1971. Seasonal releases work because that system is so stable: change the fill colours and you have a new shoe with no redesign at all.
