Released on 15 September 2023 and part of the NOCTA Glide line. This release has a mesh upper in Black/White/White/Clear. Nike spent the 2010s and 2020s changing what a sub label could be. Phil Knight stepped down as chairman in 2016, John Donahoe became chief executive in January 2020 and Nike veteran Elliott Hill later took the role, and across that stretch the company leaned harder into musician led lines with their own design identity rather than one off celebrity colourways. NOCTA is one of those lines, and the Glide is its most everyday object: a low, clean, black and white shoe with no visible attempt to be a sneaker of the moment. That restraint is the statement. A music line that opens with a quiet shoe is telling you it expects to still be here next year.
Wear one: black tracksuit trousers with a grey hoodie, tonal and low key, letting the white sole be the only break in the outfit. Wear two: dark straight jeans with a black overshirt, where the shoe reads as a clean base rather than as a talking point. This is a comfortable all day shoe, not a training shoe, so keep it off court and out of the gym. Sizing tends true; try before buying if you have a high instep. White sole units are the maintenance job here: clean the midsole edge regularly with a mild solution, since that is the part that yellows and scuffs long before the black upper looks tired.
Nike became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s onward, and for most of that time the relationship ran one way: musicians wore the shoes, and the shoes gained meaning. The company has learned the hard way what happens when it takes from music culture without asking, from the Beatles lawsuit that ended its Revolution advertising in March 1988 to the apology it issued in June 2005 after Nike SB used Minor Threat's album art. Giving an artist a design line rather than a photo shoot is the structural fix for both mistakes. It converts an audience relationship into a working one, which is harder to fake and harder to break.

A two tone build like this is a discipline exercise: the eye follows the line where black meets white, so the shape of the midsole and the profile of the upper are the entire design. The upper is built for wearing rather than for training, which means comfort padding at the collar and a fit that suits standing and walking rather than lateral load. Nike's cushioning heritage runs through sealed Air units and foam midsoles designed to be seen, a habit dating to the visible Air Max of 1987, and a white sole unit on a black upper is that heritage stated in the plainest possible terms.
