    Culture Note™

Released on 1 May 2024 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Wonder Quartz/Wonder White. Adi Dassler built the Samba in 1949 as a football boot for frozen ground, with suction cups set into the outsole so players could stay upright on ice. The name arrived in 1950, borrowed from the Brazilian dance to court that year's World Cup host country. The T-toe overlay and the flatter, lighter build that make the shoe recognisable now came with the seventies redesign for futsal courts across Europe. Wonder Quartz is a women's exclusive read on all of that, style code IH2751: an off white leather body with soft pink Three Stripes, landing at the exact moment the Samba stopped being a sneaker and became a wardrobe default. Nothing about the shape changed, and that is the whole point. Only the palette moved, and it moved somewhere quieter.
Two ways to wear it. One, cropped straight leg jeans with white socks showing and an oversized grey sweatshirt, so the pink stripes end up the only colour in the fit. Two, a midi skirt or wide linen trousers with a fitted white tee, where the soft palette holds one tonal family and the dark gum sole supplies the only depth. On sizing, the Samba OG runs true to size, so take your usual number when you buy the Samba OG Wonder Quartz in India, and remember this is a women's release, so check the conversion if you normally shop men's numbers. Care is easy on full leather: damp cloth on the upper, leather conditioner every few months, and a magic eraser along the gum sidewall when it starts to dull.
The Samba's cultural run is long: eighties football Casuals, Britpop through the nineties with Oasis wearing it openly, then hip hop and skate crowds after. The 2020s turn was different in kind. Grace Wales Bonner's luxury collaboration reignited global demand, blokecore dressers paired the shoe with vintage football shirts, and Bella Hadid put it at the centre of the clean girl aesthetic. Wonder Quartz belongs squarely to that last chapter, a soft, neutral, women's exclusive colourway built for people who wanted the Samba silhouette without the hard black and white contrast everyone was already wearing. It sold through at retailers across several markets, which tells you the read was correct.
The upper is smooth leather all the way through, which is why it reads cleaner than a suede Samba and takes a wipe down instead of a brushing. Off white leather forms the body, while the T-shaped toebox overlay and the heel tab both sit in a light tan that stops the shoe from going flat white. Pastel pink leather Three Stripes run the sides, and the Samba wordmark sits on the lateral mid panel. Underneath is a dark gum rubber sole, the same low profile unit the model has carried since its court days, flat enough to feel the pavement through and grippy on smooth indoor floors. Full leather means it creases sharply and cleans up fast.
