The 1460 is named after a date: it was introduced on 1 April 1960, and the model number preserves that day. It became the foundational Dr. Martens boot, the design from which the brand's catalogue radiates, and together with the 1461 shoe, whose number marks 1961, it has long stood among the company's best-selling designs. The Smooth designation marks the classic smooth leather execution of the boot.
