Origin
Released on 5 June 2024 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a leather upper in Core White/Core Black/Core White. The Forum was Jacques Chassaing's basketball shoe, built after he sat with pro players and asked what actually failed them on court. What came out was the criss-cross ankle strap system, a stabiliser nobody else was running in 1984, and a shoe named for the arena where Olympic basketball was about to be played in Los Angeles. Michael Jordan wore the Forum Hi at those Games before his Nike deal existed. It was also the first adidas model offered in low, mid and high. The CL is the edit that removes the thing everyone remembers: no strap, just the leather shell, the three stripes and the cupsole. In Core White with Core Black, style code IH7830, you get the Forum's proportions with none of its 80s theatre, which is why this is the pair people actually wear daily.
Utility
Two ways to wear the Forum Low CL White Black. Everyday: mid-blue straight-leg denim with a slight break over the toe, a plain white or grey tee, and let the black three stripes be the only contrast. Smarter: black tapered trousers cropped above the ankle, a black overshirt or bomber, and now the white leather does the lifting instead of blending in. Fit truth: it is a regular fit on a standard D medium width, so take your usual adidas size. If your feet are wide, the leather will give at the flex point but the width will not. Care is the whole ballgame here. Wipe the uppers with a damp cloth and mild soap after each wear, never machine wash them, use a soft brush on the midsole rather than bleach, and air dry away from direct sun.
Influence
The Forum has had two lives. The first was basketball, where the strap was a genuine performance argument. The second was everything after: skaters took to it for the flat sole and the stability, and it moved through streetwear until adidas revived it under Originals as a franchise again, with a Bad Bunny partnership doing much of the heavy lifting. The CL exists for the people who came in during that second life and never cared about the strap. Stripping it turns the Forum into a clean court low that sits in the same drawer as a Stan Smith, but with a taller, squarer stance. White and black is the version that outlives whatever is trending, and the one that stays in rotation once the loud pairs get retired.
Construction
The upper is leather and textile, so the toe box and quarters hold shape instead of collapsing into creases, and the panels break in rather than break down. The Core White leather carries Core Black only where it counts: the three stripes and the heel tab, which is what stops the shoe reading as a blank white sneaker. Inside, textile lining and a textile insole handle breathability, which matters far more on a leather low in Indian heat. Underneath is a rubber outsole tuned for grip, sitting under the Forum's flat, wide cupsole, the architecture that made the original stable enough for a hardwood pivot. It comes in a regular fit on a standard D medium width, with a normal lace closure and no strap hardware to fuss over.
