Recovery footwear became a serious category for Hoka because of who was wearing its running shoes: ultrarunners coming off long mountain efforts, and then clinical staff finishing twelve hour shifts on hard hospital floors. Both groups want the same thing at the end, which is to get out of a laced shoe without losing the cushioning. Black keeps it neutral enough to wear anywhere in that transition, from a locker room to a car to a front door. The foam volume underneath is the same founding idea the brand launched with in Annecy in 2009.
