Released on 3 February 2023 and part of New Balance's 1906 line. This release has a synthetic upper in Mindful Grey/Moonbeam/Silver Metallic. Grey is New Balance's native colour, the tone that turned a running company into a cultural fixture, and Mindful Grey is a calm, slightly warm version of it applied to the brand's most technical looking silhouette. That contrast is the whole idea. The 1906R takes its number from 1906, the year William J Riley founded the New Balance Arch Support Company near Boston, and its shape from the era when running shoes were designed to look like equipment, all layered panels and visible structure. Putting that shape in a soft, considered grey rather than a metallic or a bright makes it wearable in a way the model often is not, and it connects the newest part of the catalogue to the oldest part of the brand's identity.
