Designed by Peter Moore and released on 11 March 2022 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Black/White. Nike opened its first retail store in Santa Monica in 1966 and reached the East Coast a year later in Wellesley, Massachusetts, which is roughly the last moment the company was small enough to be surprised by anything. The Dunk Low is what a confident house does with an archive shape: hand it over to pattern. This women's makeup runs a black paisley across the panels, a motif borrowed from bandana and shawl textiles rather than from anything athletic, set against a pale base so the print stays readable. Paisley on a court shoe is a deliberate mismatch, and it works precisely because the Dunk has no strong identity to defend.
A patterned shoe is the loudest thing you own that day, so plan around it. Wear it with plain black straight leg jeans, a white tee and a black jacket, letting the paisley be the only pattern in the fit. The second version is monochrome and softer: grey sweat trousers cuffed at the ankle, a cream hoodie and no other print, where the motif reads as texture. Never pair it with another pattern. Women's Dunk sizing is true to size with a narrow toe box, so wide feet go half up. Protect the printed panels before first wear, clean by dabbing with mild soap, and store out of sunlight.
Paisley carries its own cultural weight in Western streetwear, where bandana print became shorthand for a whole strand of American West Coast style, and putting it on a Nike court shoe joins two separate lineages. Nike's own came through basketball, via the 1984 Michael Jordan signing and Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon advertising, and then through hip hop, where the brand became a status symbol from the 1980s onward and its silhouettes settled into everyday American dress. A patterned Dunk is that history being used rather than commemorated: the shape is the neutral ground and the print is the statement.
Print on a sneaker succeeds or fails on where the pattern breaks. The Dunk's stitched panel construction gives the paisley natural edges to stop at, so the motif can occupy the quarter and heel while the base panels stay plain, rather than smearing across the whole upper. That separation is what keeps a busy print from looking chaotic on a small object. Underneath, the shoe stays flat, wide and low, with a padded collar and the outsole tradition Bowerman began by pouring rubber into a waffle iron. Printed surfaces need gentler care than plain leather: dab rather than scrub, avoid solvents entirely, and keep the pair out of direct sunlight so the pattern does not fade unevenly against the base.
