Origin
Designed by Peter Moore and released on 3 November 2021 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/Sail. Move To Zero is the name Nike puts on its lower waste work, and Next Nature is where that thinking meets the Dunk. The recycling instinct is older than the label: Nike Grind has long taken manufacturing scrap and worn out shoes and pushed them back into new product and into surfaces, which is the same logic this shoe is built on, just made visible. The company itself grew out of Bowerman's dissatisfaction with what American runners were being sold in 1964, when Blue Ribbon Sports began by importing better shoes rather than accepting the ones on offer. A women's Dunk Low in Off White is the least decorated way to carry that: no contrast block, no story colour, just the shape and a slightly warm neutral.
Utility
Wear one: full neutral stack, cream wide leg trousers, an oatmeal knit, a tan tote, with the Off White upper disappearing into the palette instead of ending it. Wear two: high contrast, black straight jeans and a black crew, so the pale shoe becomes the only bright point in the outfit. It is a low cut, so the ankle stays free and it works for long walking days and travel where you will be on and off your feet. Size true to your usual Dunk. Off White marks more readily than a heavy leather, so brush dry dirt off before it sets, spot clean with mild soap and cold water, and let it air dry away from direct heat rather than forcing it.
Influence
Nike has spent decades making its engineering visible: the Air unit was put on show from 1987 so the cushioning itself became a design feature, and Nike Grind turned waste recovery into a material rather than a footnote. Next Nature continues that habit of letting the process be the aesthetic. The Dunk arrived at this point through the street rather than the arena, part of the same broad move that carried Air Force 1s and Air Max models out of sport and into everyday American dress in the 1980s and 1990s. An Off White women's pair is what that looks like once the shape is fully domesticated: a default shoe, worn by people who care what it is made of.
Construction
Next Nature builds the Dunk from recycled content rather than the standard material set, which changes the hand of the upper: expect a softer, more textile leaning panel than the leather Dunk, with the same low cut collar and the same stitched Swoosh geometry. The rubber cupsole is the constant, descended from the waffle tread Bowerman improvised in his wife's kitchen, and it is what makes this a shoe you can put real pavement miles into. Off White reads warm rather than optic, so it sits closer to bone than to bright white and hides light wear better than a stark white pair would. Recycled uppers tend to relax quickly, so it settles into your foot fast.
