Designed by Peter Moore and released on 23 February 2023 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Sail/Team Red/Black/Muslin. Special edition Dunks exist to carry a message the standard pair cannot, and this one is built around sisterhood rather than a school or a team. Style code DV1160 101 puts team red against white, the most legible pairing in the Dunk's vocabulary, and the SE designation signals added detailing beyond the base model. Nike's own history with women's sport is long and specific: Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Allyson Felix and Michael Johnson's era of track sponsorship built the company's athletic credibility, and Serena Williams became one of its most visible endorsers. A red and white Dunk sold under a collective theme is that history translated into something wearable, where the storytelling sits in the trim rather than in a campaign.
Recipe one: white wide leg trousers, a red crewneck sweatshirt and a denim jacket, echoing the shoe's red once at the top of the body so the eye travels. Recipe two: black straight jeans, a white tee and a cropped black jacket, keeping the red isolated at the foot for a sharper, more graphic look. Red and white is a high maintenance pair in dusty cities, so treat the white leather with a protector before the first wear and clean with mild soap on a soft brush. Dunks run long, so try half a size down if you are between. Do not soak the shoe: water carries red dye into the white panels and the bleed is permanent.
Nike's cultural authority was built on athlete relationships that outlasted their seasons, from Steve Prefontaine, the first track endorser whose statue stands at the company's headquarters, to sponsored athletes including Allyson Felix and Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Alongside that, the Swoosh became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s, with court shoes crossing into mainstream American youth dress. SE editions differentiate through material and finish rather than shape, so the silhouette underneath is the familiar low court build: stitched leather panels, a padded collar, a foam midsole and a rubber outsole with a pivot circle at the forefoot. The red sits on the overlays and Swoosh against a white base, which is the arrangement that makes the Dunk's panelling readable from across a room. Expect additional detailing at the tongue, insole or lace hardware, since that is where special editions carry their theme without disturbing the proportions. The ride is low, firm and direct because there is no visible air unit here, and the leather will crease across the toe box in the first week of wear.
