Origin
Designed by Peter Moore and released on 12 July 2024 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Phantom/Obsidian/Pale Ivory/Metallic Gold. Next Nature is Nike's badge for product built with a meaningful share of recycled material, and it connects to Nike Grind, the programme that takes manufacturing scrap and worn out shoes and puts them back into new products and surfaces. Putting that badge on a Dunk Low is the point: this is the company's most reproduced casual silhouette, so it is where a materials decision actually changes volume rather than optics. The Olympic colourway gives it a second job. Nike's language for Olympic is the ring palette laid over a clean base, a set of primaries that only work together because everyone already recognises them, applied to a shoe that has nothing to do with any event.
Utility
Two ways to wear it. Plain black or ecru wide leg trousers and a white tee, letting the shoe supply every colour in the outfit so nothing competes with it. Or grey sweats with a single colour hoodie pulled from one of the shoe's own panels, which is the safest way to wear multi colour footwear without looking costumed. Keep the rest of the outfit flat and unpatterned. Size true to your usual Dunk. For care, clean colour blocked panels one at a time with a barely damp cloth so dark dye does not bleed across a light neighbour, avoid soaking recycled synthetic uppers, and let the pair dry away from heat before storing.
Influence
Nike's shoes stopped being sports equipment in the 1980s, when the Jordan signing and Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon advertising made basketball the brand's cultural engine and Air Jordans, Air Force 1s and Air Max models became fixtures of urban and hip hop dress, then of mainstream casual wear. The Dunk inherited all of that without ever having a signature athlete of its own. That is why it can carry a recycled materials programme and a primary colour blocking exercise at the same time without looking confused. A silhouette that broad becomes a surface the company writes on, and each generation reads whatever is written differently.
Construction
A multi colour Dunk is a construction story as much as a colour one, because each panel has to be cut and stitched separately for the blocking to stay crisp, and any misalignment shows immediately on a shape this familiar. Next Nature builds use recycled content in the upper and sole components, which changes the hand feel of the material: recycled synthetic surfaces tend to sit slightly flatter and less glossy than virgin leather, and they take marks differently. Nike Grind is the same recycling logic applied at scale, feeding scrap and old shoes back into product and playing surfaces. Expect the standard Dunk experience underfoot, low and firm, with a lighter, more textile leaning upper.
