Two recipes. First, navy pleated trousers with a Birch coloured knit and a tan belt, a tonal fit where the shoe's stripes tie the trouser to the top. Second, mid wash straight jeans, a white shirt and a navy chore jacket, the most everyday possible framing of the pairing. Because the stripes are the focus here, keep patterns off your trousers. Take your usual size, since the last runs narrow and slightly long. Brush the Birch panels dry, avoid tinted polishes that would yellow the off white, and use a neutral conditioner on the navy stripes so they keep their depth.

The stripes are the reason any of this survived. They first appeared on the Mexico line in 1966 and became the brand's trademark, which meant that when Asics revived the dormant name in 2002 there was one instantly recognisable graphic to rebuild around. Since the early 2020s that graphic has been everywhere again, carried by the swing away from chunky sneakers toward slim, low profile shapes and driven by celebrity wear and younger shoppers. A TGRS Birch Peacoat is that whole logic in neutral colours: the mark is the selling point, and the palette makes sure it can be worn every day rather than saved for weekends.

The build stays true to the line: slim leather upper, narrow last, low flat profile and a thin cupsole with almost no stack. What the TGRS treatment focuses attention on is the stripe panel itself, which on this model is stitched overlay rather than print, so it holds the quarter together while carrying the mark. Peacoat navy on those panels against a Birch body gives you a clear outline of the stripe from every angle. The Birch leather creases early across the toe and picks up marks along the sole edge. Underfoot it is flat and flexible, a shoe that moves with the foot rather than supporting it.
