Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 20 March 2021 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Ash Pearl/Ash Pearl/Ash Pearl. Ash Pearl belongs to the softest register the 350 V2 ever worked in, a pale grey with a warm cast that sits somewhere between stone and skin. It comes from the later years of the model, once the bold contrast stripe of the first releases had been dropped in favour of tonal makeups where nothing interrupts the surface. That change tells you how confident the design had become: the shape alone was doing the identification, with no graphic and no logo to assist it. The platform itself launched on 24 September 2016. adidas terminated the Yeezy partnership on 25 October 2022, which places this colourway firmly in archive rather than current production.
Utility
Soft greys reward soft outfits. Recipe one: pale grey pleated trousers with a white tee and an unstructured overshirt, so the shoe is the quietest thing in a quiet outfit and the whole look reads as considered. Recipe two: washed black denim with a taupe knit, where the warm grey bridges the two and stops the pairing looking severe. Take your usual size and let the knit ease. This is a dry weather shoe: pale knit does not survive wet grit. Protect before first wear, dry brush after each outing, spot clean with foam and cold water only, never machine wash, and air dry indoors so the midsole does not yellow in sunlight.
Influence
Tonal pastel colourways are what carried the 350 V2 into ordinary wardrobes rather than collector rotations. The silhouette had become one of the most recognisable of the 2010s through a scarcity model, timed drops in limited numbers, that generated queue culture, bot buying and a resale economy larger than retail, and softening the palette let the shape travel further than any hype release could. GQ in 2016 called these the most influential sneakers around. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy; adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 over his antisemitic public remarks, which it described as unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.
Construction
Primeknit builds the upper as one machine knitted piece, and in a tonal makeup the knit texture is the only variation across the whole shoe, so the surface reads almost like a fine fabric rather than a sports upper. The Boost midsole underneath is expanded TPU pellet foam, its speckled cells sitting close in tone to the knit above so the shoe holds together as a single soft mass. There is no external branding. Pale warm greys sit between the extremes for upkeep, forgiving of light dust but quick to show a scuffed toe or a dark crease. On foot the midfoot is snug, entry is pull on, and the knit relaxes noticeably after a week or two.
