Released on 3 July 2024 and part of Nike's ZoomX Invincible 3 line. This release has a flyknit upper in Multi-Color/Multi-Color. Nike is an engineering company that happens to sell clothing, and its founding artefact is domestic: Bill Bowerman pouring rubber into his wife's waffle iron to make a lighter sole, which produced the 1972 Moon Shoe and the 1974 Waffle Trainer. The Invincible 3 is the modern version of that impulse, using ZoomX, Nike's altered Pebax foam and the lightest and most responsive in the range, in a maximum cushioning daily trainer rather than in a racer. The Blueprint Pack treatment puts the making on the outside, dressing the shoe in drafting language. It suits a product whose entire value proposition is what the midsole is made of.
Two uses. One, the bulk of your week: easy runs, recovery days and long slow efforts, where a high rebound platform saves your legs across a training block. Two, standing and walking days, including long travel, because the same cushioning that helps at kilometre twenty helps in an airport. Wear technical socks, not cotton. Size with a thumbnail of toe room. Keep ZoomX alive by letting it rest: rotate pairs, avoid machine washing entirely, rinse with cool water only, pull the insoles out and dry in shade, since heat and direct sun break foam down faster than running does. Replace them when the bounce goes, not when the upper tears.
Nike built a campus rather than a factory town: it moved to its Beaverton, Oregon world headquarters in 1990 and opened the first Niketown in downtown Portland the same year, treating design and retail as performances in their own right. Blueprint style releases come from that self image, a company that wants you to see the drawing behind the object. It is a long way from selling 1,300 pairs of imported Japanese running shoes for about 8,000 dollars in the first year of trading, and it is why Nike can sell a training shoe on the name of its foam alone.
The point of this shoe is a large volume of ZoomX under your foot for everyday running, which is unusual because that foam is normally reserved for racing. What you get is a soft, high rebound ride that feels bouncy rather than dead, and what you accept is a tall platform that needs a stable midfoot and decent form to stay controlled. Nike's upper thinking runs through Flywire, cables holding the foot so the upper can carry less material, and Dri-FIT for moisture management. Pack colourways with lighter panels show road spray quickly, so rinse after wet runs and dry the shoe fully before the next session.
