Culture Note™
Buttercup is the green one, the fighter of the three, and this SB Dunk Low Pro takes that character literally rather than politely. Nike SB exists because skateboarding took a basketball shoe and wore it into the ground, and the Pro version is the one built for people who actually land on it. Cartoon collaborations work on this silhouette for the same reason team colourways do: the Dunk is a panelled canvas, and a strong single colour identity fills it instantly. Green here is not an accent, it is the entire argument. The shoe reads as a character before it reads as a sneaker, which is exactly the point of a themed skate release.
Keep the green as the only loud element. Baggy black carpenter pants, a plain white tee and a black cap lets the shoe carry the whole outfit, which is how skate colourways are meant to be worn. Alternatively, go tonal with olive cargo trousers and a cream hoodie so the green reads as a considered pick rather than a costume. This is a genuine skate shoe, so it handles daily abuse, long walks and actual sessions. SB Dunks fit slightly snug and the padded tongue takes a week to settle, so take your usual size. Brush suede dry, never soak it, and use a suede eraser on scuffs rather than soap.
Nike SB has always sat awkwardly between corporate scale and subculture, and the label knows it: in 2005 the line used Minor Threat's album art without permission, drew a public rebuke from Ian MacKaye and issued an apology. That tension is the reason SB releases carry weight. A cartoon collaboration is the friendly end of the same instinct, borrowing an image everybody already loves and putting it on the most collected skate shoe in the world. It sells to skaters and to people who have never stepped on a board, and both groups are buying the same thing: a shoe that is unmistakably about something.
SB Dunk Pro models are built for impact rather than display, which is the practical difference you are paying for: a fatter, more padded tongue, a plusher collar and a Zoom Air style cushioning approach under the foot to take the shock of repeated landings. Nike Air is a pressurised gas unit sealed into the midsole, a technology the company has been refining since the Air Max made cushioning visible in 1987, and in skate form it is tuned for board feel rather than height. The rubber outsole is cut for grip on grip tape. Suede and leather panels in green take scuffing better than smooth white leather, so this ages into character instead of ruin.
