Designed by Horst Dassler and released on 13 June 2026 as part of the Stan Smith line. This release has the Running White/Running White/Fairway colourway. The Stan Smith is the shoe that taught the world a sneaker could be formal. It is a plain white leather tennis silhouette with perforated stripes instead of stitched ones, and it became, alongside the Superstar, the base layer of European football terrace and casual dressing, the two shoes on which adidas Originals was really built. Fairway takes that blank canvas and puts green where the shoe usually wears it, in the heel tab and the tonal accents, pushing it towards the course rather than the court. Green has always been the Stan Smith's one permitted colour, which is why a Fairway execution reads as a deepening of the original idea rather than a departure from it.
Green accents want warm neutrals and denim, not more green. Recipe one: tan chinos with a white oxford shirt and a navy jumper, letting the heel tab be the one green note in the outfit. Recipe two: dark denim with a cream sweatshirt and no visible socks, the classic Stan Smith clean look, where Fairway just quietly warms up an otherwise all white shoe. White leather is easy to maintain and hard to restore, so wipe it after every few wears with a damp cloth rather than waiting for a deep clean. Use a leather conditioner occasionally to slow cracking at the creases, and keep it out of monsoon puddles entirely.
adidas Originals exists because sport product got adopted for everyday life without permission, and the Stan Smith is the clearest case. It moved from tennis into terrace culture, then into offices, art schools and airports, until a white leather sneaker became an acceptable substitute for a shoe you would previously have polished. That is a rarer achievement than the Superstar's more famous hip hop adoption, which arrived after Run-DMC released My Adidas in 1986 and made the shell toe a music object. The Stan Smith did the opposite: it made adidas invisible and therefore universal. Fairway is that universality with a golf accent, aimed at people who want the shoe to say slightly more than nothing.
The Stan Smith build is deliberately quiet. A smooth leather upper with a perforated Three Stripe pattern replaces stitched banding, which is the detail that lets the shoe pass as a plain white leather shoe from a distance, and a flat rubber cupsole keeps the profile low and clean. adidas has treated the Three Stripes as structure since buying the mark from Karhu Sports in 1952, and perforating them is the most restrained interpretation of that in the entire catalogue. Fairway concentrates the green at the heel and in the accents so the leather stays the dominant surface. Smooth leather like this creases across the toe box quickly and permanently, which is part of the shoe's character rather than a defect.
