Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 5 June 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 6 line. This release has a suede upper in Black/Electric Green. Electric Green on an Air Jordan 6 is a deliberate provocation. The 6 is a Tinker Hatfield design from the stretch when he was giving each model its own language, and it is one of the most sculptural shapes in the line, so a high voltage green reads as a spotlight thrown across that sculpting rather than as a colour choice. Nothing about it references Chicago or the red, black and white that work as Jordan Brand's own colours. That is the appeal: the 6 is recognisable enough by outline alone that it can be finished in a colour no team would ever wear. Style code CT8529 003.
One electric colour, everything else off. Recipe one: black wide leg trousers, a black tee, a black bomber, a full blackout fit where the green is the only signal. Recipe two: grey sweat trousers, a white tee, a black cap, casual and neutral so the shoe stays the event. Do not pair it with any other bright colour, and avoid navy which will look accidental. Dry days, evenings, warm months. Size true, use the lace lock across the tongue for real midfoot hold, clean marks the same day since bright green shows everything, and keep it out of sun to protect the dye.
The 6 belongs to the years when Air Jordan stopped being sports equipment and became a cultural object, carried by Spike Lee's advertising with Mars Blackmon on screen and by rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z. It is also one of the three silhouettes Travis Scott has worked on with his Cactus Jack Air Jordan 1, 4 and 6, which pulled the model back into the centre of the market. Michael Jordan is the founding signature athlete and namesake, signed in 1984 on a deal that included royalties, a clause almost unheard of at the time.
The 6 gives you a clean toe, a moulded heel tab you can hook a finger into, and a lace lock across the tongue that genuinely tightens the midfoot when you use it. Nike Air cushioning, in the line since the Air Jordan II, sits below. A bright green accent against a darker base makes each of those details pop as separate objects. High voltage dyes are the fragile element: UV fades them, solvents lift them, and abrasion shows instantly. Protect before first wear, brush dry, use a mild foam cleaner only on the midsole, and store the pair away from windows and direct heat.
