Forum Exhibit Low 2.0 White Almost Blue Magic Grey
Forum Exhibit Low 2.0 White Almost Blue Magic Grey
Culture Note™️ / ملاحظة الثقافة
Origin
Released on 23 October 2022 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Almost Blue/Magic Grey. The Exhibit line is adidas basketball's modern take on a court shoe that also has to work as a lifestyle object, and the Low 2.0 is the second pass at that balance. The heritage behind it is the Forum, which arrived from adidas basketball in 1984 with an ankle strap and a raised collar, and behind that the Superstar of 1969, whose moulded rubber shell toe was made to protect players' feet under the basket and which was reportedly on more than 75 percent of NBA players by 1973. White with Almost Blue and Magic Grey is a deliberately soft colour story: a clean base with two muted accents that never resolve into a team palette. Style code FZ5596.
Utility
On court it wants an indoor floor and a firm lacing job from the toe up, using the last eyelet, with the understanding that a low top trades ankle coverage for freedom. Off court, the palette is the advantage: grey sweatpants and a white tee let the Almost Blue read as the accent, or navy trousers with a white shirt make the whole thing look considered rather than athletic. Take your usual basketball size, since these run close to true. Clean the white panels early and often with a foam cleaner rather than water alone, keep the textured sections brushed, and use a separate pair for outdoor courts, which will destroy the outsole pattern.
Influence
adidas basketball has two audiences at once, which is unusual. There is the game, running from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and George Gervin making the shell toe a court standard through to the modern signature era with James Harden, the company's signature basketball athlete. Then there is everyone who buys these shoes without ever playing in them, an audience adidas has had since the Superstar was reportedly on more than 75 percent of NBA players by 1973 and was then taken over wholesale by hip hop, a second life the company did not design and could not have planned. The Exhibit Low is built knowing both groups exist, and a low saturation palette is aimed squarely at the second without disqualifying it from the first.
Construction
A low top basketball shoe has to compensate for the collar height it gives up, so containment moves into the lacing, the lateral panels and the width of the outsole footprint. That is where the engineering sits here. The upper mixes smooth and textured panels so the colour blocking has surface variation rather than flat contrast, and the Three Stripes are integrated into the structure of the midfoot in the way adidas has used them since 1952, when the mark was bought from Karhu Sports and stitched on for reinforcement. Almost Blue and Magic Grey are both low saturation, which means the shoe reads clean rather than sporty. A white base on a court shoe shows scuffing from other players' soles immediately.
